The film portrays the poverty-stricken character of Radha, the female protagonist who survived all odds to raise her children in an Indian village. The family got exploited over many years by a moneylender Sukhilala in lieu of a loan of a mere sum of five hundred rupees. Radha also loses her children, though survived by two of them. It is a love story between a Mughal prince Salim, and a court dancer & a maid named Anarkali. The ruling king Akbar was against the blossoming relationship between his son and a maid. Anarkali was entombed in bricks walls by the emperor but before that, she spends some time with Salim and gave him a little poison so that he doesn’t object to her being entombed. He labeled religious preachers as managers of god and called them a wrong number. He says that people have forgotten God and are tied up in the false system created by god’s managers.
